by doublelife init's been a while since i've posted because i've been so busy looking for a full-time job so that i could leave my husband.

You Who Have Been on the Board For Awhile - What Are your Concerns ?
by flipper inwell, it's late.
i need to go to sleep, got home from work, but i thought i started a newbie thread why not a thread for those who have been on the board a long time , or for awhile now ?

I agree with Undercover. There are new people coming to this board everyday. There needs to be a mix of "serious" topics along with the "fun" topics. Lots of people have been helped by this board. We need to keep doing it.

My Parents First Taste Of Being Shunned Since They DA'd.
by mentallyfree31 inmy parents sent their da letter back in march.
my mom bumped into a jw who has been a friend since 1985, in fact they were baptized the same day at the same convention.
this particular jw quit attending meetings in 1996. my mom saw her in a grocery store.

I agree with Gregor. There's lots of room for misinterpretation here. This inactive woman is more than likely very confused about her religious beliefs and life in general. There are so many conflicting emotions when you leave the JWs. It's hard to sort them out.

SOME ENCOURAGEMENT FOR THE NEWBIES AND LURKERS
by palmtree67 ina quote from "crisis of conscience".
don't be afraid to read it.. .
whatever the initial distress - a distress that sometimes follows the demenaing experience of being interogated by men who, in effect strip one of dignity, make the weight of their authority felt, and presume to judge adversely one's standing with god - however torn one may feel inside, afterward there is a distinct feeling of relief, of peace.

I view it as an organisation that took my family from me as well as many years of my life.
This is the way that I feel also. My whole story is complicated and all the ways it has affected my family is complex.

An Introduction
by Desert Rat insince i have been a lurker off and on for years, i thought it was high time i got off my duff and joined.
i didn't look at member names when i sat up my account, so i didn't realize there was a desertrat already, i am just a slight difference with a space in there.
thought i would point that out right away so there would hopefully be no confusion.. my name is sue and i live in nevada.

Hi Desert Rat. Welcome. I think if you find the little church appealing you should go check it out. I doubt that it will have any of the negative traits of the JWs. You may find many friends there and a good support system. It may be a place that you can plug in and do good in the community. Keep posting. Most churches are not like the JWs. You are free to think for yourself.

Who Would You Like To See As President Of The USA In The Next Election?
by minimus inwill it be obama or someone else?.

I think it will probably be Obama but it's really impossible to say for sure. I think I'd like to see Mitt Romney have a go. I don't know why McCain didn't pick him for a running mate.

I'm glad your mom and dad are out of the mind control cult. I don't understand why this woman in the grocery store would act this way. If she is inactive and has been for many years how would she even know that your parents have disassociated?

Would any of you DESTROY ones faith and life as a JW if they were your dying grandparents?
by EndofMysteries inthis is a serious question, trying to decide the right thing to do.........i do believe in god, i am sorting out what i believe and true from lie and such.
have question on how atheist and just ones belief in god would respond to this.. .
if you have a grandparent, (or even some relative) who spent their entire life as a jw.

I agree with undercover. I'd be worried about that, too, undercover.

Who really are JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES......really.....?
by Terry injehovah's witnesses don't expect to convert the world.
they expect to educate the world about jehovah's kingdom and his christ.. before: nobody knows about it.. after: everybody knows about it.. how would you measure what people "know"?.
how well informed is the average citizen in 2010 vs 1879, for example?.
